Those “Other Guys” Have To Find New Jobs

When getting your car serviced, you can either go with Jiffy Lube and its professional guaranteed-price estimates or you can go to those “Other Guys” who try to rip you off with any number of questionable mystery charges.

Well, so many people have made the choice to go to Jiffy Lube that it has driven those “Other Guys” out of the oil changing business.  So now those “Other Guys” have to find new jobs, which includes anything from childcare to dentistry to bikini waxing. Let’s just say those “Other Guys” have their work cut out for them.

In front of a sign that reads “Honest Mel’s Auto Kare”, “Honest” Mel and “Honest” Larry, both dirty, grimy rednecks stand talking to an upset Woman Customer who looks at her receipt.

NARRATOR (V.O.)

When it comes to oil changes, you can go to those “other guys”-

WOMAN CUSTOMER

Undercoating charge? We didn’t talk about this.

HONEST MEL

You calling me a liar?

HONEST LARRY

She’s calling you a liar.

The Woman Customer gives them an annoyed look.

INT. JIFFY LUBE - DAY

A Jiffy Lube technician carefully goes over a work order with a customer.

NARRATOR (V.O.)

Or you can go to Jiffy Lube, where a personalized estimate is always guaranteed.

The customer smiles at the technician.

NARRATOR (V.O.)

In fact, the staff at Jiffy Lube are so good, those “other guys” have had to find a new line of work.

EXT. HONEST MEL’S MECHANIC SHOP - DAY

The sign out front of Honest Mel’s has the word “Auto” crossed out and now reads “Honest Mel’s Child Kare”. Honest Mel and Honest Larry stand talking to an African American Woman.

AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMAN

Uh, that is not my son.

Reveal an Asian Girl is standing with Honest Mel and Honest Larry.

HONEST MEL

You calling me a liar?

HONEST LARRY

She’s calling you a liar.

The African American Woman gives an incredulous look. The Asian Girl looks back at the Men with a confused look.

NARRATOR (V.O.)

Sorry, this is kind of our fault.

HONEST MEL

Look, just take the kid and I’ll throw in an undercoating for free.

The African American Woman just shakes her head.

Honest Mel fires up a giant mechanic’s drill.

Okay, now let’s rotate ‘dem teeth.

The Female Customer looks very worried.

I have got to change my dental plan.

The “Other Guys” PR and Social Media Campaigns

In addition to the TV spots, the social media and PR components of this campaign make the “Other Guys” go from just characters in commercials to cultral icons.

The “Other Guys”Take Over the Jiffy Lube “Lube Bowl”

When Jiffy Lube sponsors the college bowl game known as the “Lube Bowl”, the “Other Guys” become the default mascots of the game. During the game they run amok around the stadium trying out different jobs.

They attempt to do cheerleading, concession sales and finally they go up in the booth and try their hand at announcing the game. All with questionable results.

The “Other Guys” Get Litigious

The “Other Guys” actually go to court and sue Jiffy Lube for unlawful termination. They make the claim that Jiffy Lube used unfair business tactics by being “too good” at their oil changes, thus costing them their livelihood. The “Other Guys” are seeking 400 quabillon dollars and a can of chewing tobacco for restitution.

The “Other Guys” Try Other Jobs

A viral social media campaign where those “Other Guys” try their hand at other jobs with real life people to see their reactions.  When those “Other Guys” take on the roles of Massage therapists, ballet teachers and leaders at a meditation retreat, no one is immune from getting a taste of what the “Other Guys” bring to the table.
